About Barri
Over the past 17 years, I have developed an expertise on what it takes to create a sustainable business partnership, from choosing wisely to feeding and nurturing the relationship. Most of this knowledge has come from conducting dozens of what I call “partnership interventions”, all in an effort to save the relationship, partnership and thus the business.
In determining the root cause of partnership problems, I realized that most conflicts could have been prevented had the partners invested the time upfront to uncover their own motivations and expectations, get clarity on the values and expectations of their potential partner, and had the courage to have the fierce conversations to come to mutual agreement and understanding.
This workbook is a culmination of my experience and contains the methodologies and tools I use in my work with business partners. It is designed as a self-help workbook and is filled with tons of valuable exercises, checklists and tools. In sharing this work it is my hope to make accessible to the millions of entrepreneurs thinking about a partnership, the information to make better decisions and create successful business partnerships.
In addition to my work with business partners, I have personally partnered in three start up businesses and held executive positions in two Fortune 500 companies. I count as strengths my ability to apply strategic and critical thinking to business challenges and opportunities and I bring expertise in all facets of operations and in building customer- focused and market-driven organizations.
In 1997, I decided I didn’t want to get on one more airplane to attend a business meeting! So I started Carian Consulting http://carianconsulting.com/ to pursue my passion to help owners of small and mid-size businesses develop practical and successful solutions for growth. Shortly after I began Insync Partnership Services, to help troubled partnerships get back on track.
In 2005, I created and continue to run a locally based CEO Roundtable. This group of business owners, CEOs and Presidents meet monthly to tackle the challenges and opportunities in running their businesses.
A native Californian, I received my BA from the University of California, Riverside. I am a Past President of the Orange County chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), a member of the Forum for Corporate Directors, and I’m completing my 16th year of volunteer work for Healing Odyssey, a retreat for women cancer survivors.
